Catherine DeGris was the only child of Eran Vult, the legendary highwayman responsible for bringing an end to the invasion of the orcish horde. She never knew her mother, and was raised by her father and his ranch hands on the edge of civilization in Torunn. Eran taught her to ride, fight, and survive in the wild, and when her magical abilities first manifested he hired a tutor to help her hone her gift. She became close friends with Lissa Marie, an orphaned halfling who had a talent for working with animals, and together the two of them had many adventures along the border of the Wastes.
Catherine grew up wanting to follow in her father’s footsteps, and while he feared for her safety, when she came of age he gave her his blessing to venture out into the world. With Lissa she took a job guarding the newly founded town of Goodhearth in the wilds of Marn, fending off beasts and monsters while the settlers built the town. When their contract was up they made their way to Garrick, where they uncovered a plot by a cabal of nobles to provoke a war with Doloth. With the help of reformed pirate Roland Taverner they foiled the plot, further making a name for themselves as adventurers. In Doloth they joined forces with the legendary dwarven alchemist Nicolai Blastonovic to beat back an incursion of monsters from the snowy north.
While the four of them were on an expedition into Kreer, Catherine received word that her father had been poisoned. She quickly made her way back to his ranch, in time to say farewell to him before he passed. After the funeral, she met Red Mask, a mysterious traveler who claimed that Dellisar Zoren, the man who had poisoned her father, had also killed his mother. Together they tracked him to Two Rivers and confronted him, but he proved far too powerful and Catherine was nearly killed in the confrontation. She was saved when an elven dockworker named Julius Melusine attacked Dellisar from behind, distracting him long enough for the city guard to arrive.
When she awoke in the hospital, Julius was by her side. He stayed with her while she recovered, and the two of them fell deeply in love. Catherine said farewell to her former companions, and she and Julius moved to Goodhearth, where they established a small farm on the edge of town and lived a peaceful life for many years. Eventually Catherine gave birth to a daughter, Eabha Melusine. When Eabha was 12 years old, Catherine disappeared in the night, and rumor has it that she journeyed north and departed the human nations.
Eabha recently was reunited with her mother in the secret haven of the Shardmages beyond the edge of the world. There, Catherine has been living as Archmagus, and personally devoting her magical energies to keeping the portal that shattered the world closed until the rift can be repaired.
